What You’ll See Step-by-Step

Debarking and detection

In order to ensure the purity and safety of the wood before further processing, logs first pass through a debarking system and metal detector.

Splitting

The most critical step in the entire process. By splitting the wood, we follow the tree’s natural grain, resulting in the straightest grain and the strongest bats.

Vacuum kiln drying

in vacuum kilns, where hot water runs through plates between billet stacks—speeding up the process and producing stronger, brighter wood.

Dowel production

The billets are shaped from rough squares and pass through a molder with six cutting heads. Each dowel is then individually inspected and graded.

Shaping

Bats are turned on state-of-the-art lathes, then sanded for a flawless finish. We also produce axe handles, furniture parts, and golf shafts with precise 12-axis lathe shaping.

Over the last 15 years, operations of the facility have been streamlined and transitioned from traditional Wood-Mizer saws and hand-loaded kilns, operated by multiple workers, to the modernized, semi-automated setup we have today.

We’ve had visitors as young as 10 walk through our doors! So far, we’ve welcomed CASV teams, coaches, players, families, woodworkers and lumber pros—all here to witness the full process from forest to field, right before their eyes.
